During a conference call and Webcast with the press today from the Googleplex in Mountain View, Calif., Google trotted out a line-up of engineers to explain what is new for Web users and what Google hopes to gain with Chrome.

Sundar Pichai, Google's vice president of product management, said the name Chrome itself is indicative of the key value that Google is aiming to provide with the new browser. Chrome is the space where the user interacts with the browser in the traditional Netscape/Mozilla view of browsers. It's an area that Google is aiming to minimize for usability.

"Chrome is kind of an ironic name for our product," Pichai said. "Our view is that the browser is just a tool for people to interact with applications that they care about so browsers should not be self-important. We wanted to make sure that people were forgetting why they are using a browser."

Google has introduced something called the OmniBox which integrates the traditional browser address bar with a search box.

The Essentials of Google Search

Doing a search on Google is easy. Simply type one or more search terms (the words or phrase that best describe the information you want to find) into the search box and hit the 'Enter'

In response, Google produces a results page: a list of web pages related to your search terms, with the most relevant page appearing first, then the next, and so on.

Choosing search terms

Choosing the right search terms is the key to finding the information you need.

Start with the obvious – if you're looking for general information on Hawaii, try Hawaii.

But it's often advisable to use multiple search terms; if you're planning a Hawaiian vacation, you'll do better with vacation Hawaii than with either vacation or Hawaii by themselves. And vacation Hawaii golf may produce even better (or, depending on your perspective, worse) results.

You might also ask yourself if your search terms are sufficiently specific. It's better to search on luxury hotels Maui than on tropical island hotels. But choose your search terms carefully; Google looks for the search terms you chose, so luxury hotels Maui will probably deliver better results than really nice places to spend the night in Maui.

Capitalization

Google searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for george washington, George Washington, and gEoRgE wAsHiNgToN will all return the same results. Automatic "and" queries.

By default, Google only returns pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include "and" between terms. Keep in mind that the order in which the terms are typed will affect the search results. To restrict a search further, just include more terms. For example, to plan a vacation to Hawaii, simply type vacation hawaii.

Automatic exclusion of common words

Google ignores common words and characters such as "where" and "how", as well as certain single digits and single letters, because they tend to slow down your search without improving the results.

If a common word is essential to getting the results you want, you can include it by putting a "+" sign in front of it. (Be sure to include a space before the "+" sign.)

Another method for doing this is conducting a phrase search, which simply means putting quotation marks around two or more words. Common words in a phrase search (e.g., "where are you") are included in the search.

Word variations (stemming)

Google now uses stemming technology. Thus, when appropriate, it will search not only for your search terms, but also for words that are similar to some or all of those terms. If you search for pet lemur dietary needs, Google will also search for pet lemur diet needs, and other related variations of your terms. Any variants of your terms that were searched for will be highlighted in the snippet of text accompanying each result.

Phrase searches

Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms.

"the long and winding road"

Phrase searches are particularly effective if you're searching for proper names ("George Washington"), lyrics("the long and winding road"), or other famous phrases ("This was their finest hour").

Negative terms

If your search term has more than one meaning (bass, for example, could refer to fishing or music) you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid.

For example, by writing bass -music in search box

you'd find pages about bass-heavy lakes, but not bass-heavy music

Note: when you include a negative term in your search, be sure to include a space before the minus sign. And finally... "I'm Feeling Lucky"

After you've entered your search terms, you might want to try the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, which takes you straight to the most relevant website that Google found for your query. You won't see the search results page at all, but if you did, the "I'm Feeling Lucky" site would be listed on top.

For example, if you're looking for the Stanford University homepage, just enter Stanford and click "I'm Feeling Lucky" instead of the Google Search button. Google will take you directly to http://www.stanford.edu/.

Create Shortcut to Hibernate Windows XP instead of Shutdown

Hibernate is great because it saves the status of your Windows XP session (all the programs and documents you have open) to the hard drive, so it can automatically restore it the next time you power up. The first step to making a Hibernate shortcut is to make sure you have Hibernate turned on. Go to the Control panel then click Performance and maintenance. Next, choose Power options, and select the hibernate tab. Finally, make sure Enable hibernation is checked.

Now to actually make the shortcut right click your desktop and choose New Shortcut. Next, type this case-sensitive command into the dialog box

click next. Give the shortcut a name like Hibernate and click finish. From now on all you need to do to enter hibernation is double click the shortcut.

Also you can put this shortcut to Windows task scheduler so that system Hibernate can be achived at a particular time automatically.

Samsung W510 - First Bio-Plastic Materials Mobile Phone

Samsung W510 is the company's first phone that includes bio-plastic materials. More exactly, the back cover of the handset is made of plastic obtained from corn. Plus, unlike most of the phones on the market, the W510 does not contain elements like Mercury, Lead or Cadmium.

Samsung will be rolling out what it calls a "green phone", the W510. The reason why it is green is because it is made out of bio-plastic, a natural material extracted from corn that won't pollute the nviroment as much as a manufacturing standard cell phone would. It will hit the Korean market later this month, so if you want one you can always head there and pick up a handset unlike any other. After all, it is hard to argue against an applied water-soluble coating, right? Makes me wonder just how much of an environmental impact the 3G iPhone will make assuming it hits the 10 million
sales target. Another green phone from Samsung would be the F268 that has an alarm function that alerts the user each time it is fully charged so that you won't waste any power leaving it plugged in.

The features of W510 were not unveiled yet, but we can see a photo camera with flash, a pretty wide display and mobile TV capabilities, hence it's most probably a mid-end device. The W510 will be available starting this month (June) in South Korea, for a price that has not been announced yet.

Samsung D780 strengthens dual-SIM lineup

Today, Samsung officially revealed the second dual-SIM phone of the company's portfolio, the stylish tri-band bar Samsung D780 Duos. The new phone is not a direct successor of the D880 but more of an expansion to the Duos family. The Samsung D780 Duos main selling point is its dual-SIM functionality. The handset is capable of working with two SIM cards simultaneously with both being active in the same time.

The Samsung D780 also features a 2 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities. The screen is a 2.1-inch one, capable of showing up to 256K colors in QVGA resolution.

Other features include Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support and USB v2.0 as well as a microSD card slot for expanding the internal memory capacity. The MP3 player and stereo FM radio completes the multimedia capabilities of the neat and stylish phone. Samsung D780 will be powered by the same 1200mAh battery used in the Samsung D880 Duos.

You may also remember that there was another dual-SIM handset rumored, which never saw the light of day. The Armani-like Samsung P720 dual-SIM phone was cancelled by Samsung. Nevertheless, more Duos handsets are expected this year - even one that will run on the on Windows Mobile OS.

Samsung D780 will be available in dark silver color and mirror silver colors and will first be available in Russia from May and in Southeast Asia, Europe, and Middle East shortly afterwards.

Celina along with her team made a visit to the Media Production City on the outskirts of the city. It's what Film City is to Mumbai.

His Excellency, The Ambassador of the Ar@b Republic said, "We want people to know that Egypt is not just about the Pyramids. We are working strategically on the tourism industry in Egpt. For its growth, we are offering easy visas, lower ticket rates, various tour packages etc. We hope to double the number of Indian tourists to Egpt by 2009. We are spending half a million U.S. Dollars in the next six months to encourage traffic between India and Egypt."

Banta Singh and Santa Singh got tired using cell phones and for a change decided to use really ancient methods of communication. They decided to use pigeons to send messages.

So they went and bought expensive carrier pigeons from the Jamia Masjid market in old Delhi and found to their joy that the pigeons indeed could be trained and the birds very easily learnt to return directly to their respective homes. And so this scheme worked very fine.

One day Santa sends his pigeon.

Yesterday I was having some work done at the Ford dealer. A woman came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten.

We all looked at each other, and the mechanic asked," What is a seven-hundred-ten?"

She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine.I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there."

The mechanic gave the woman a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710 !!

A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid .

Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.

Here's what you do," said the Doctor, "stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response.

"That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the den.

He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens ." then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?" No response.

So the husband moves to closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?"

Still no response. Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his wife and asks, Honey, what's for dinner?"

Again he gets no response so; He walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again there is no response. So he walks right up behind her.

One evening there was a community supper in the big activity center. The two were at the same table, across from one another as the meal went on, he took a few admiring glances at her and finally gathered the courage to ask her, " Will you marry me?"

Hospital Window

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room .

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.
His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it. In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window . The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you ."

Epilogue:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money
can't buy.

Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, are extremely mischievous.
They are alwaysgetting into trouble and their parents know all about it. If any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved. The boys' mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually.
So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon.
The preacher, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly,
"Do you know where God is, son?"
The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open.

So the preacher repeated the question in an even
sterner tone, "Where is God?!"
Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. The preacher
raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed,

A wonderful story

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white
beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I
don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have
something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.

"No", she replied. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
